"It's going to be a beauty", the clergyman, who is particularly impressed by the two-story parish hall and the youth room with its sandstone barrel vaulting, is certain of one thing.
The house, built in 1707, together with the parsonage and two smaller buildings on tradgasse, is one of the oldest buildings in untersteinach. In the past the organist lived there, later the house became a protestant school and was used for choir rehearsals and as a teacher's apartment. The building has been empty since 2007.
Throughout the summer, the building was carefully gutted before the installation of new ceilings and the moderate extension in the direction of the cemetery were begun. This annex will house toilets in the basement and kitchens and toilets for the disabled on the first floor. "Old and new buildings will be clearly separated from each other visually", explains wolfgang oertel, according to whose words the extension is covered with sheet metal.
The first floor community hall will be a good 80 square meters in size and can be expanded by the 30 square meters of the foyer through a sliding door. A seminar room will be built directly above the foyer on the second floor, which can also be used as a gallery for the church hall, which is open all the way under the roof.
The basement will also house a checkroom, the technical room and a youth room, which will have a "very special charm" thanks to the sandstone roof gets, as wolfgang oertel says. The meanwhile uncovered vaults of the eaves walls will be completely glazed and provide access to a terrace at basement level. Another terrace is being built in the garden facing the st.-oswald church.
Interior work in winter
Before the onset of winter, the architects from the kulmbach office H 2 M and the workers want to close the building shell so that the interior work can take place. Everything should be ready in april 2014.
The total cost of 1.2 million euros has been subsidized by the state church, the state foundation, the upper franconia foundation, the county and the municipality. The own contribution of the church community untersteinach is about 380.000 euros; it is to be financed through the sale of the youth center property, construction costs, fundraising and special activities.
The last building of the historic church ensemble will be renovated with the conversion of the cantor's office, which can then be used even more intensively for church work and become a meeting place in the middle of the town. It can be reached quickly and easily, and parking spaces are available in the immediate vicinity on stadtsteinacher strabe. Furthermore, the church was able to acquire the property wassergasse 1; parking lots are to be built there as well.
