Art protects against madness

Art protects against madness

"Dream images – bildertraum" the current exhibition of the art association in the monchshof is over-written. But at the vernissage the ambiguity of the title became obvious: the fantastic art of alfred kubin (1877-1959), caspar walter rauh (1912-1983) and stephan klenner-otto (born in 1959) rather take up nightmarish themes.
A clock with a hand that cuts off a head every hour. A cursed man who sweeps other creatures – seemingly motionless – into the black abyss. Or oversized gruesome shapes and skeletons, this is how alfred kubin interprets the threats of the times. Caspar walter rauh, who this year celebrates his 100th birthday. The artist, who was able to celebrate his 50th birthday, has processed the experiences of his war service in poland, france and russia in his paintings.
In the works of the contemporary artist stephan klenner-otto, one repeatedly encounters the absurd. Creatures drawn by decay and loose eyeballs are part of his pictorial language.
"I simply had more luck than the other two artists", says stephan klenner-otto. He did not have to experience the horrors of war personally. But he also knows depression, despair and abysses – and he gives them shape in his paintings. "Art protects from madness", is one of his favorite sayings.
The paintings from three generations are very different in style – and yet they have some things in common. "Art comes from ability", said the chairman of the art association, karl-heinz greim, complimenting the artists. Mayor stefan schaffranek was pleased about the importance of art in kulmbach. With nine exhibitions a year, the kunstverein, which has just celebrated its 150th anniversary. Member has set the bar high and given art a platform.
Caspar walter rauh is actually at the center of the artist's triad, astrid fick emphasized in her laudatory speech. The artist, who lived for many years in kulmbach and eventually died here, would have turned 100 this year.
Evi weier admires rauh's art. "For me it was always the uncle walter, but unfortunately I had little contact during my lifetime, I lived in essen", betrayal the grobnichte of the artist. She herself has some caspar walter rauh pictures in her collection.
Stephan klenner-otto has also made his first etching available for the exhibition. The special one: "I made it when I was 19 under the guidance of caspar walter rauh", tells the artist.

Anniversary final: leverkusen must win in moscow

Anniversary final: leverkusen must win in moscow

Certainly out, certainly on and maybe even the chance of a champions league miracle: for bayer leverkusen are before the penultimate group match of the champions league at lokomotive moscow (18.55 CET/DAZN) many scenarios still possible.

OUTLOOK: bayer as well as lok have three points before penultimate group match. Moscow has a slight advantage in the direct comparison after the 2-1 in the first leg in leverkusen and would be the winner in the event of a draw. Otherwise, the winner of tuesday’s duel is almost certain to be in the european league. Unless leverkusen only wins 1:0. Or with 2:1 and must hope for the goal difference.

PERSONNEL: leverkusen missing quite a few players at fairly short notice. Kai havertz injured in penultimate bundesliga game at wolfsburg, mitchell weiser in last against freiburg, nadiem amiri saw red against atletico madrid. It remains to be seen whether julian baumgartlinger, who was absent against freiburg, will be fit – and whether he will actually play.

The steep climb out of the pigsty

The steep climb out of the pigsty

Roland hofmann had all this when he was in his mid-20s and working alone on a farm in his parents' pigsty in haidhof. Today he is 48, head of around 60 employees and managing director of a company with annual sales of 5.8 million euros.
The stuff that dreams are made of has always been metal to him. "Even as a child, I assembled bicycles; working with metal has always been fun for me," he says, says the trained industrial mechanic, who passed his master craftsman's examination in 1989.
Roland hofmann comes from a farming background. When his father became ill and the farm could no longer be run, he had the idea of using the empty pigsty as a workshop. "I started out with a lathe and a circular saw." Hofmann still remembers his first order, arranged by a friend: turning threaded flanges for EWAG in nurnberg. "I was still working on my own – piece by piece, mostly in the evenings. At this time, roland hofmann's main job is still as a milling and turning operator at kugelfischer in nurnberg. He takes the plunge into self-employment when his employer files for bankruptcy. He is driven by two considerations: firstly, there is an existing building site, and secondly, I wanted to get into computer-controlled manufacturing technology (CNC), explains hofmann. But: there was the hurdle with the bank still to take.

Mother's skepticism overcome

"With 25 years nothing is there yet", the entrepreneur describes his situation at the time. But when his parents step in and sign over a plot of land that he can use as a mortgage, the foundation stone for the company is laid. Despite his mother's skepticism: "she always feared that the house and the farm would be destroyed, admits roland hofmann. He bought his first milling machine in 1990: "at the time, a machine like that cost around 150,000 marks – plus 50,000 for tool accessories, he explains his mother's fears. "I ordered the machine, but there was no order yet – but I was sure that something would come along, stresses the enterprising haidhofer.

Steam engine fascinates museum visitors

Steam engine fascinates museum visitors

Toys from private lenders from bamberg and the surrounding area can currently be discovered in the bamberg historical museum. The christmas exhibition play.Stuff.Bamberg" among teddy bears, dollhouses and a rocking horse, loewe displays treasures that evoke memories of carefree childhood for many visitors.
One of the highlights is certainly the still working steam engine of friedrich maierhofer. It is doubtful whether it still arouses awe in the younger visitors today. The steam engine is more popular with the "older" generation exhibition visitors.

Connection to childhood

Friedrich maierhofer makes available for the exhibition this steam engine, which his father friedrich maierhofer (b. 1920) around 1930. For him, this object is closely connected with his childhood and probably decisively influenced his desire to become a mechanic. The steam engine is for him "industry 1.0" – the first automatic drive system".
The very well preserved stucco stood on the family’s rough living room table and all family members were present when it was needed to run.
As part of the program accompanying the special exhibition, maierhofer explained to the visitors how the children’s steam engine worked: spirit is heated, this produces steam, which drives the turbines.

The presentation attracted many interested observers, including marlen bonke, the museum’s scientific volunteer who is responsible for the exhibition. She was very satisfied with the response of the visitors and if necessary the demonstration will be repeated.

Bethlehem is everywhere, also in kulmbach

Bethlehem is everywhere, also in kulmbach

Kulmbach gets a crib trail – with stations to look at and marvel at throughout the city? Plans for this already exist, and the prerequisites are also in place – thanks to a generous donation from the kulmbach pastor georg ochsenkuhn. The catholic clergyman collected christmas cribs from 55 countries in europe, africa, asia and america for about 40 years and recently donated the collection of about 400 specimens to the city of kulmbach.

To make sure that the people of burgenland also got something out of it as soon as possible, helmut volkl, head of the tourism and event service, and many helpers organized an impromptu exhibition in public buildings: in the town hall, in the tourist information office, at the municipal utilities and in six shops in kulmbach, interested people can admire the scenes – traditional representations from austria and italy as well as exotic-looking interpretations from the world of christian art cameroon and the philippines.

The story that, according to christian belief, took place in the stable in bethlehem was told a long time ago, and israel is a long way away. The crib builders have therefore always tried to integrate the event into their own world. The figures usually wear the facial features and clothing of the respective tribe. When poncho-clad shepherds and their lamas make their way to the manger, or the african mary bends over her dark-skinned infant jesus, the artist emphasizes what he considers to be the most important aspect of the christmas story: "the savior is born to me today."

Wolf’s short- and long-term mission at hsv

Wolf's short- and long-term mission at hsv

Hamburger sv coach hannes wolf’s first defeat is like a toothache. "We wanted to take this chance and we didn’t manage to do that," grumbled the 37-year-old coach of the fubball-zweitligist after the 1:3 at holstein kiel.

Originally he wanted to say goodbye to the christmas vacations with 40 points. In fact, there are only 37. But they are still enough to lead the table ahead of relegated team 1. FC koln (36) and FC st, which surprisingly spent the winter in relegation place. Pauli (34).

Despite all the anger about the first defeat in the first leg against kiel (0:3 in the first leg), wolf knew how to keep his feelings in check. The embarrassment over the bankruptcy of the holstein stadium construction site should not get out of hand a few hours before christmas eve. "You have to be upset one day and be back to normal the next day. I’m not going to put my family through the whole day being in a bad mood because of soccer," says the coach. "Christmas is for the family. The children will make it easy for me to forget the game."
